The Children’s Center | Facebook

Teaching ChildrenEarly education matters: Research shows that kids emerge from it with better skills, lower future dropout rates, and improved chances for lifelong success. Cognitive, social, emotional, and creative development all play a role.

The Children’s Center strives to give working families of Beaufort County affordable and accessible early childhood education services-and they always need volunteers.

From classroom assistants and after-school tutors to arts and music instructors, there are plenty of chances for you to put your skills to work. Support staff is in high demand, too, so consider applying today!

Family Promise | Facebook

Family Promise is out to make an impact, and they can do so with your help. This organization helps shelter homeless children and their families. It’s a vital service and even more important as the holidays get closer and the weather turns colder.

They give these sheltered children and families the skills they need to foster independence, helping them get (and stay) on track for a successful life. Volunteers provide meals, critical needs, and companionship.

If you’d like to volunteer, this organization needs friendly greeters and adults who can stay overnight with the families this holiday season. See if it’s a good match for your skills!

Second Helpings | Facebook

Providing nutritious food for the hungry since 1992, Second Helpings has a goal of eliminating hunger in the Lowcountry. They rescue surplus food from grocery stores and distribute it to other nonprofits, who can ensure that it gets where it’s needed most.

Some 45,000 meals are provided weekly thanks to this organization’s good work. They need able-bodied volunteers who can help move and distribute food, and they have trucks stationed in Hilton Head Island. Second Helping’s has three programs. Their major volunteer effort is on their trucks rescuing food. The second program is their Healthy Initiative Program, which uses grants to purchase and grow fresh produce. They work closely with Dempsey Farms. And the third program, which was recently featured in December’s Local Life Magazine, is FILL THE NEED, a food distribution targeting people who ride the Palmetto Breeze Buses from rural areas and work with Hilton Head Island.

You can volunteer in other ways, too, whether in the office, helping with marketing, or by hosting a food drive. Contact them today and see what you can do!
